2.5 Conversion Tracking (Optional)

Please note: This is an optional process, it does take some technical knowledge.

If you are working with an agency, advertiser or other types of third party they will sometimes ask for pixel tracking. Generally, pixel tracking will can help the third party to track impressions, clicks, sign ups, form submits, payment etc., all depending on where the pixel was placed.

In our system, we offer two types of campaign tracking a) Pixel Tracking b) Server to Server/Postback URL.

In general, pixel tracking uses cookies therefore tracking cookies may be cancelled by the end users, denied from their browser or expire after a certain period of time. On the other hand, Server to Server is more accurate as it is a cookieless tracking.

Conversion Tracking

Pixel Tracking

Pixel tracking is usually in the form of 1×1 image which is delivered and is totally transparent to the end visitors to the website. The goal of a tracking pixel is to pick up the end-user’s identification (cookie) not just to transmit the fact that someone purchased something.

The advertiser will simply take the pixel code and insert it into a custom third party creative that makes a server call and returns the transparent pixel code. For the best performance, the advertiser should place the pixel code at the top of the creative code.

The browser sees the image tag and makes a request from the user’s browser to the server, along with parameters such as the amount of items purchased or other data to identify the user’s action. On the image request the browser passes the user’s domain-specific cookie id, the server then responds with a transparent 1×1 image pixel, which is not visible to the end user.

Implementing the pixel code:
You can define the name of the pixel code (ROI Name) so remember what it tracks.

Next, there are two pixel codes that you can retrieve from the system, a normal pixel or a secure pixel code depending on the configuration of your website.

You will also get to see all required parameters in order to set it up correctly:

    • Network ID (nid): it should reflect your platform’s number
    • Advertiser ID (aid): it is the advertiser ID listed on your platform
    • Track Zone (tz): it’s a unique tracking ID, it helps filter out any other value that get fired. It can be generated from your admin or assigned to any numeric value.
    • Conversion value (value): the value in dollars for each conversion, will be used to calculate it in the campaign report. If left empty, the default will be 0
    • Tracking ID (cluid): Meta replace URL, it syhould receive through landing URL, stored and place back. Sometimes it is know or used as sub ID
    • Campaign ID (cid): store and pass back the campaign ID when using UID instead of cluid.
    • Alternative Tracking ID (uid): it is an alternative of cluid. Should be used together with cid, however cluid is still recommended.

When the parameters are replaced it should look like the example shown.

Conversion Tracking2

Testing the Pixel

After the pixel is implemented, it is important to test it to make sure it is set up correctly so you can accurately optimize your campaign. To do so, click on ‘Step 2: Test Conversion’ button and walk through the steps of the end user achieving the conversion.

Conversion Tracking3

Please note: After you make the test, it may take up to one hour to update the conversion status of the creative. If creatives shares the same landing URL, only one of the creatives will be shown for conversion test.

To start the test, click on the ‘Start Conversion Test’ button. You will be guided to the landing page and you will need to complete the step of a conversion.

Conversion Tracking4

As you do the conversion testing, the verification progress will show below:

Conversion Tracking5

Once the conversion event is tracked then a check mark appears and the testing is completed and working.

Server To Server (Postback URL) Tracking
Server to server tracking does not use cookies to store information, it uses the merchant servers instead making this method more precise. After a conversion takes place the merchant server will send information to CPXcenter.

Please note: the advertiser must call the postback URL below after the successful completion of the offer to track a conversion. The advertiser must append the tracking id (uid or cluid) that was passed to the advertisers landing page. When the advertiser loads the postback URL, it records a conversion.

Optional Parameters:

ROI name (roiname): the optional name to identify the conversion
Page Referral URL (ref): the URL of referring page where the pixel fired from
IP Address (ip) The IP address of the user who completed the conversion
User Agent (ua) the user agent of the browser/application that the pixel was fired from

Conversion Tracking6

Testing the Postback URL
Once implemented, you can do a conversion testing by click on the button ‘Step 2: Test Conversion’.

Please note: After you make the test, it may take up to one hour to update the conversion status of the creative. If creatives shares the same landing URL, only one of the creatives will be shown for conversion test.

Conversion Tracking7

As you do the conversion testing, the verification progress will show below:

Once the conversion event is tracked then a check mark appears and the testing is completed and working.
